HEAD OF HOCKEY

Andrew is our Head of Hockey.

He creates high-performance on-ice programs and is responsible for providing leadership and support to our hockey athletes in all areas of on-ice player development

Andrew has been lacing up his skates for 20 years and has spent his playing career across countries such as Australia, Slovenia and Canada. He represented Australia at the U18 IIHF Junior World Championships in Serbia and has 4 National junior titles under his belt.

He has played in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) for the Melbourne Mustangs Ice Hockey Club and the Melbourne Ice for 6 seasons winning 3 Goodall Cups during his time with the club.

Andrew has coached both in Australia and in Canada and holds coaching accreditations in both countries

He worked as a skills coach at NLHA for 4-years, was the Assistant Coach for the 2018 Victorian U18 Tange Team, Head Coach for the Victorian U18 Tange Team in 2022 and 2023, Head Coach U18 Dockland Ice Wolves in 2021 and 2022 and is currently the Head of Player Development for Ice hockey Australia.

In Canada, he spent his time coaching in Calgary, Alberta with the Bow Valley Timberwolves Midget AA and the Cochrane Generals Junior B teams. Among that, he’s also currently working as a hockey skills and power skating coach at the O’Brien Icehouse Hockey Academy.

The basis of his coaching philosophy is based on long-term player development. He believes that building the character of a person is just as important as developing their skills as a hockey player so he emphasises the importance of educating and equipping his players with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours that will help them become the best version of themselves on & off the ice. Through the establishment of team culture, core values, and principles within an optimal learning environment, his passion and dedication towards the improvement of his players is second to none

Andrew also has his Masters degree in Physiotherapy so is a qualified Physiotherapist so has a great understanding of what an athlete requires to reach optimal performance and prevent injury on & off the ice
